6th Grade - Planting the Seeds for Collaboration

To welcome our new sixth graders to our "Food for Thought" unit, we started with a collaborative activity. The sixth graders worked in teams of five to six to plant seeds for vegetables. Throughout our unit, our students will explore how our eating practices affect our natural environment. They will eventually transplant their seedlings in the garden in the schoolyard and we will enjoy the vegetables at our first Expo on 12/15 and 12/16!

One of the core values of the Exploration program is Collaboration. Collaborative Learning is a learning process where learning activities are expressly designed for and carried out through pairs or small interactive groups as students move toward intended learning outcomes. Teachers design creative, challenging, and effective group assignments that encourage positive interdependence and individual accountability among learners
We were very impressed with how well the sixth graders worked together on this project and we can't wait to see the amazing projects they create during their time here at MS447.
