7th Grade Constructing Sturdy Skyscrapers

The seventh graders explored different techniques used to create strong skyscraper foundations. They learned methods for decreasing the impact of wind on skyscrapers: mass dampening, tiered levels, bankments and wind tunnels. They constructed buildings incorporating at least two wind resistant design features.

7th Grade Manhattan Skyline

During the seventh grade NYC Uncovered unit, students are considering how the skyline is an important part of a city's identity. They constructed a scaled Manhattan skyline in our hallway. One aspect of the final project is designing and building a skyscraper. They will reimagine the Manhattan skyline by adding their skyscraper to our scaled hallway skyline.

The sixth graders visited the Brooklyn Grange at Brooklyn Navy Yard to learn about farming practices in an urban environment.

7th Grade Brooklyn Heights Promenade and Brooklyn Bridge Park

The seventh graders visited the Brooklyn Heights Promenade and the Brooklyn Bridge Park to observe the Manhattan skyline. They are studying the geology of Manhattan to understand where skyscrapers are built. After observing the skyline, they were able to infer how the presence of bedrock and glacial till impacts the placement of skyscrapers in Manhattan.

6th Grade Brooklyn Botanic Garden

The sixth graders visited the Brooklyn Botanic Garden to learn about plant adaptations. They explored the Tropical Rainforest and Desert biomes. They also visited the herb garden to look at the seasonal vegetables.
